Rickettsia rickettsii Antibody, IgG & IgM

R. conorii is the causal agent of the mediterranean spotted fever. The onset of the disease is characterized by fever, exanthema and black spot at the site of the tick bite. Indirect immunofluorescence is the most commonly used technique, but it can be replaced by ELISA with similar sensitivity and specificity results. This technique can also be used for the detection of IgM antibodies. IgM can be detected after one week of illness.
