It is the commonest sexually transmitted disease. Approximately 75% of women and 50% of men are infected and have no symptoms, making diagnosis of the infection an extremely difficult task. If an infected woman does not undergo therapy, there is a possibility that the infection may be transmitted to the child during birth.
Chlamydia trachomatis
A special polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is applied, detecting the presence of the bacterial DNA.
SPECIMEN:Secretion, spontaneous abortion tissue sample, a urethral or cervical smear, urine sample.
